This bold geometric design has a meisen weave accented by simple graphic floral shapes. Ishidatami is the name for this simple checker board design which is used in many different ways throughout Japanese design, usually featuring the fashionable colours of the era. The design has been woven in the Meisen technique.
Meisen is identifiable by the ikat-style weave which creates a charming feathered edge around the design. The technique was used predominately in the latter Meiji period and continued to be a popular method of production up until 1950.
This vintage kimono is in near perfect condition but due to its age has some minor water mark discolouration. Please contact us for images or if you have any questions.
