fornasetti village haori

95.00

This striking geometric haori is reminiscent of the imagined cities of Italian Painter, Piero Fornasetti. Abstract shapes in neutral colours and dusty pinks are dotted with tiny windows and doors that give life to the city. The unique design has been created with meisen weave, which creates the feathered ikat edge to the print. Meisen weaving has been popular since the late Meiji period, but became highly fashionable in the 1920s/30s when the new technique allowed freedom in Japanese textiles, taking inspiration from painting and design from all over the world. This vintage haori has a shorter length which makes it easily wearable as a casual jacket, or displayed above a mattlepiece.

Despite its age this haori has been lovingly preserved and remains in very good condition
