golden eagle souvenir jacket

750.00

A sukajan or 'souvenir jacket' takes its name from Post WWII Japan, when American soldiers would commission ornate embroideries on their jackets to commemorate their time overseas. In this unique fusion of cultures, Japanese dragons can intertwine with American eagles amongst cherry blossoms and military iconography. These oriental souvenirs have captivated designers and inspired collections from Gucci and Louis Vuitton. The new obsession with these beautiful jackets is making authentic sukajans very hard to find – don’t miss out on this rare treasure!

This stunning vintage jacket is made from deep golden silk with complimentary striped sleeves in a lighter tone. The embroideries show iconic Japanese imagery including a map of Japan, Mount Fuji and traditional architecture below the wingspan of an eagle, the symbol of power. The front panels are also embroidered with a patterned Geisha looking towards a mountain.
Despite its age this sukajan has been well loved and has worn beautifully.
