graphic leaf haori

250.00

This dynamic haori has a woven chequered background of rust and grey. The bold stylised leaves in contrasting teal, yellow and cream are softened by the ikat-style edge of the meisen weave.  Meisen weaving has been popular in Japan since the late Meiji period, but became highly fashionable in the 1920s/30s as the technique allowed for a new freedom in traditional textile design. The longer length of the body and sleeves is another indication that the haori is Pre WWII. The woven silk creates a subtle mixture of tones within each colour.

Despite its age this haori has been lovingly preserved and remains in very good condition

Sleeve to sleeve 122cm
Back Width 60cm
Length 90cm
