oriental lily kimono

300.00

This stunning 1920s kimono has an expressive print of oriental lilies painted in colourful brushstrokes. The vibrant colours are softened by the light, airy weave of the Ro silk. Ro fabric is loosely woven with horizontal lines shown by gaps in the weave, created by braiding pairs of silk threads over one central thread. This kimono's true name is a nagajuban or undergarment. Although the most formal nagajubans are white, they can sometimes be as beautifully decorated as the outer kimono that covers them. The lightness of the fabric makes this nagajuban ideal to be worn in the summer months, or displayed against a window to enhance the layers of colour.

Despite it's age this kimono has been lovingly preserved and remains in near perfect condition. The lighting of the photo is intended to show off the weight of the fabric and this kimono is less transparent than it appears.
