reversible silver stream sukajan

950.00

This rare sukajan is heavily embellished with complimentary embroideries on both sides and can be worn either way. The outside is made from beautiful black silk with champagne sleeves, embroidered with dusky pink blossom petals. Silvery carp swim beaneath the blossom branches with exquisite embroidered scales. The reverse of the jacket shimmers with metallic threads and water ripples around a pool of silver fish.

A sukajan or 'souvenir jacket' takes its name from Post WWII Japan, when American soldiers would commission ornate embroideries on their jackets to commemorate their time overseas. In this unique fusion of cultures, Japanese dragons can intertwine with American eagles amongst cherry blossoms and military iconography. These oriental souvenirs have captivated designers and inspired collections from Gucci and Louis Vuitton. The obsession with these beautiful jackets is making authentic sukajans very hard to find – don’t miss out on this rare treasure!

Despite its age this sukajan has been well loved and has worn beautifully.
