This pretty little haori has a loose floral design including delicately intertwined twigs, leaves and spring buds. The sophisticated colour palette and charming painted quality of the meisen weave make this a rare and special find.
Meisen is identifiable by the ikat-style weave which creates a charming feathered edge around the design. The technique was used predominately in the latter Meiji period and continued to be a popular method of production up until 1950.
Traditionally haori’s were used as overcoats and are considered informal and removed in the company of guests. However the Painted Bloom Haori boasts slightly longer sleeves which suggests that it would have been worn by younger women or as a ceremonial item for special
Despite its age this kimono has been lovingly preserved and remains in perfect condition.
